From Kim after the Houston Marathon: Sunday January 18, 2004
Hello to one and all!! I ran this chilly, windy morning in the Houston Marathon....all
to honor Chase McGowen! I do wish you could have seen me. My best 'training and
preparation' for this run included writing WWW.helpingchase.com on the front and
back of both shirts I wore, as well as writing all over the happy face balloon
I ran with. I also wrote the dollar amount I have received in checks and pledged......
as of this morning..... $225 / mile! This could not have been done without each
and everyone of you. Your kind heart that have offered prayers, love and support,
have carried Chase so far in the days post transplant. The family and I thank
you so much for all you have done and continue to do. Chase is a wonderful kid
who really motivates all who know him. Arriving at the GRB Convention Center at
5:40 am, people started asking me about Chase! It was a joy and blessing to share
his story with so many. For many hours to follow, I talked of Chase, yelled his
website to thousands, and prayed for his daily battle with each step I took! I
find running to be a natural metaphor for life. As the going got tough...which
for me it really did today, I prayed for the strength, courage and determination
that Chase is sure to need in the days ahead. He is so strong, and the God we
serve is the wind beneath his wings. After 3 hours and 43 minutes of telling everyone
along the way about our hero Chase, my 'work' for the day was done. ( Not a personal
record, by far, but the most meaningful run of my life!) I had the opportunity
to share the fundraising story with Fox news after the run. It is you who made
the fundraising efforts such a success! Chase's battle continues, he has a lung
biopsy at 10 am Monday. Pray that his little body is accepting the organs. In
all these things and more, we trust God with the outcome! His faithfulness sustains
us day by day! Again, we all thank you for your pledge of support. If you have
not yet mailed in your check, you may send it to : Chase McGowen Medical Assistance

set before you! Kim Zimmermann kimzimruns@msn.com Letter
